Treebula – Revolutionizing the Forest Industry with AI and Sustainable Practices

Treebula, the Swedish digital platform known as the “Marketplace for the forestry industry,” is revolutionizing the way forestry management and timber sales are conducted. Recently, Treebula secured a substantial SEK 28 million investment from Industrifonden and existing owners to fuel its vision of unlocking the true value of forests and building a greener future.

Founded in 2017 by Per Hedberg and Adam Aljaraidah, who serves as the CEO, Treebula has rapidly grown to become a vital marketplace for timber sales. With approximately 330,000 forest owners in Sweden, over 50,000 of them have already joined the platform. This digital marketplace enables sellers to list their forest products, such as clear-cut areas or thinnings, and potential buyers can view information about the products’ location, tree species, and volumes. By utilizing an AI-driven system, Treebula automates the selling process and ensures transparency and efficiency for all parties involved.

Apart from the timber marketplace, Treebula also offers a unique and technically advanced service – digital forest management plans. Traditionally, forest management plans required on-site visits by consultants, which could be expensive and time-consuming. However, Treebula’s AI model integrates data from various sources, including satellites, the National Land Survey of Sweden, and the Swedish Forest Agency, to create automatic digital forest management plans. This innovation significantly reduces costs and even provides a selection of plans for free, making forest management more accessible to a broader range of forest owners.

Adam Aljaraidah emphasizes the company’s commitment to sustainability and its focus on the environment. Treebula provides climate compensation for forest owners and supports them in obtaining subsidies for installing solar panels. With a growing trend in industries looking to utilize wood as a sustainable alternative to materials like plastic, the demand for forests has increased. Simultaneously, the importance of preserving forests for carbon sequestration is driving the need for new and efficient forest management methods.

The recent investment from Industrifonden will help Treebula expand its services and reach. The company plans to use the funding primarily for recruiting additional personnel and attracting more forest owners to its platform. By the end of the year, Treebula aims to double its user base to one hundred thousand forest owners. Furthermore, Treebula’s ambition extends beyond Sweden, as it already offers a complete version of its platform in Norway, and provides selected services in Poland and Germany under the name “Treebula.”

Anna Haupt, an investor at Industrifonden and a former founder of Hövding, expresses excitement about Treebula’s potential to create a greener future. As the demand for wood and carbon sequestration increases, the forestry industry is evolving through digitalization and a growing focus on biodiversity and financial values. Treebula’s innovative approach, driven by AI technology and sustainable practices, aligns with the changing landscape and is expected to play a pivotal role in the future of the forestry sector.

With the combined strength of Industrifonden’s investment and Treebula’s dedication to sustainable practices and AI-driven solutions, the company is poised to lead the way in transforming the forestry industry, unlocking the true potential of forests, and promoting a more environmentally conscious future for all.In summary, Treebula’s growth, driven by AI and sustainability, will undoubtedly have a profound impact on the forestry industry, offering valuable services to forest owners and facilitating a greener and more sustainable future for generations to come.
